Director of Strategic Partnerships, GBCHealth

The Director of Strategic Partnerships will be a highly-skilled leader who will spearhead high-priority relationships with the U.S. government, select non-U.S. government agencies, the UN system and other key partners in global health.  Other key partners include private and non-profit health institutions, foundations, individuals and academic institutions.  The critical success factor of this position is the ability not only to establish strong relationships but to develop them in a way that brings value for GBCHealth members and directly results in incremental revenue streams for the organization.  The Director of Strategic Partnerships will meet or exceed annual revenue targets developed in partnership with senior leadership.  S/he  will deliver member value through contributing to aspects of the GBCHealth service offering most highly valued by members:  e.g., unique networking and knowledge-sharing opportunities within as well as across sectors; strategic guidance and brokering assistance to generate effective partnerships; and forums for recognition and visibility among influential leaders and decision makers.

The Director of Strategic Partnerships will also facilitate the regular strategic planning processes of GBCHealth.  It is anticipated that this set of responsibilities will take up approximately 10% to 15% of the Director’s time. 

The Director of Strategic Partnerships will also work very closely with the Membership and Advisory Services department.  The Membership and Advisory Services department is a dynamic team whose role it is to advise members about the best business approaches to fighting health issues that yield impact for both the company’s bottom line and global health outcomes. They provide strategic guidance to GBCHealth members on workplace and community programs; develop industry and regional (geographical) strategies for corporate action; identify and broker partnerships (business-to-business and business-to-government); and convene members at regional and global events including the GBCHealth Annual Conference and Awards Dinner. 

This position will report directly to the Managing Director.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of professional experience driving and establishing relationships, preferably in the government and multilateral sphere
  • Significant experience working in, or with, major global institutions engaged around health: multilaterals (e.g., UNAIDS, WHO, World Food Programme, the UN Secretariat), and/or key aspects of the U.S. Government (e.g., HHS, PEPFAR, USAID, CDC) 
  • Ability to network and represent GBCHealth at the highest levels of government
  • Proven ability to drive partnerships and relationships to meet top organizational priorities and drive revenue growth
  • Comfort with being responsible for annual revenue goals
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; demonstrated success in developing and maintaining senior relationships
  • Proven experience in strategic planning and facilitation
  • Strong writing and editorial skills. Demonstrated ability to understand and clearly articulate complex, technical development issues and to synthesize these issues into concise documents
  • Highly organized with strong planning, project management and reporting skills. Strong attention to detail
  • Must have or be willing to develop working knowledge of key global health priorities and issues Existing relationships with key GBCHealth partners and other corporate sector players a big plus

Good team player with strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor. Position Summary and responsibilities:

  • Manage member accounts within the SADC region- develop engagement strategies for GBCHealth member companies and organizations; manage and develop relationships with senior executives in Fortune 500 companies and top international health NGOs
  • Develop and deliver ongoing value for member companies
  • Leverage GBCHealth meetings, initiatives and events for recruitment of new member companies
  • Research and assess new prospective members; coordinate marketing and outreach strategies to engage and recruit prospective members to membership
  • Liaise with GBCHealth HQ to support regional member recruitment efforts and coordinate processes
  • Develop and implement industry-specific strategies for sectors such as pharma/life sciences, mining and extractives, financial services, media and entertainment, consumer goods and travel and tourism
  • Manage the delivery of GBCHealth regional events
  • Build and strengthen relations with key partner organisations in the NGO, donor and governmental sectors
  • Provide advisory support to member companies to design, implement and enhance workplace and community based programmes and leverage company profile and reputation
  • To develop a network within the department of health and other relevant government agencies that includes key decision makers, policy makers with the aim of enhancing mutual benefits and preparing the organization for anticipated changes
  • To represent our members in selected industry led forums to address issues of common interest related to market access and relevant stakeholders within the boarder healthcare market

Requirements:

  • Corporate experience, preferably in marketing, corporate social responsibility, public affairs or community affairs
  • Proven ability to balance competing demands of multiple constituents. Should be able to multi-task and function under pressure in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Substantial knowledge of customer relationship management, account management; strong sales and marketing skills OR substantial development sector project management experience
  • Ability to work effectively within and across teams
  • Proven project management skills
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication, presentation and business writing skills.
  • Track record of relationship building and managing complex stakeholder relationships
  • Master's or Bachelor's Degree with at least seven to ten years work experience
  • Global health or development experience preferable: ideal candidate will possess MBA-MPH credential
  • Polished professional; able to interface with senior executives at multinational companies and within all spheres of government across the SADC region

Summer Internship 2012 | June - December

The Membership Department’s overall priorities are to advise companies and organizations about the best business approaches to fighting HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria, as well as other global health issues.  We work to improve the health of workers, communities and customers around the world by advising companies directly, developing case studies and best practices, brokering partnerships and convening partners at high-level events around the world.  Within the Membership Department, the Content Team is responsible for driving technical content, resources and guidance within the organization and among GBCHealth’s membership.

Interns working on the Content Team within the Membership Department will be involved in researching companies’ engagement with diseases such as HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria, cancer, diabetes, etc.; supporting events with high-level attendees; drafting case studies for website and print publications; developing presentations, communication materials and internal resources; and copy-editing print publications produced by department.  Also, interns will at times perform administrative duties, including assist organizing correspondence and events, coordinating e-mail and print mailings, and providing data base support/maintenance.

Global Fund Private Sector Delegation (PSD)

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria is a world renowned financing mechanism envisioned by former U.N. Secretary General, Kofi Annan and endorsed by Bono, Bill Gates and French First Lady, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy among many other international leaders. GBCHealth hosts the Global Fund Private Sector Delegation (PSD) – a group of leading companies and private sector organizations committed to supporting the Global Fund carry out its mandate to increase resources to fight the world’s three most devastating diseases, and to direct those resources to areas of greatest need. Digital Media and Communications

Summer Internship 2012 | June – December

The Communications team directs GBCHealth's communications, external affairs, events and digital media. This involves a range of activities, from marketing and media outreach to managing the GBCHealth website and events.

The Digital Media and Communications Internship is a full-time position with a focus on two key areas:

Digital & Social Media

The Digital Media aspect of this internship will include work on the GBCHealth website, marketing, collateral development and social media, including design and HTML work. The intern will take on significant project management responsibilities and will help plan and execute GBCHealth's social media initiatives. This position will include some video editing.

Communications

The intern will support Communications staff in researching, writing and editing content for the website, publications, GBCHealth newsletters and GBCHealth reports.

Key Skills Required:

  • Strong writing, editing  and research skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Project management experience
  • Ability to manage and prioritize projects with multiple and often competing deadlines
  • Experience using Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube for an organization/corporation

Events Management and Logistics Internship

Summer Internship 2012 | Full-Time Position Available: June - December

GBCHealth’s Communications & Events Department seeks a full-time (40 hours/week) Events Management and Logistics intern for Summer 2012. Intern will receive a stipend.

The Communications & Events team directs GBCHealth’s marketing, communications, media outreach and organizational events. This internship will involve significant support of the Events Coordinator in the planning and logistics for our global events.

We are looking for someone who is meticulous and detail-oriented, proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and has a professional writing/communication style appropriate for liaising with high-level speakers and attendees. The ideal candidate will take initiative and act as a leader on given projects. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to gain project management experience.

Required skills and attributes:

  • Demonstrated project management skills, including ability to manage and prioritize projects with multiple and often competing deadlines
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
